Don't you think it's about time you found out about this Dark Side of your nature? It's called the Shadow. And it's where all the secrets are hidden. It is now time to use the tools of emotional regulation and mindfulness to open the door of the mind and explore powerful forces that reside there. This Course uses the neurobiological concept that the brain is a community of rival emotional programs (archetype) that competes for control of the construction of the Self (what you mistakenly call You). Two of these forces are addressed in this Course - the Inner Critic and the Orphan. These are elements of your being that have to be brought into alignment for your long-term best interest for you to claim the potential of what you can be. Most have no idea of the influence these two elements play in the drama of your life. That blind spot is corrected in this Course.
Nobody acknowledges it, but everybody knows. Everybody knows that there is a critical voice inside the mind that keeps judging you negatively. Or that relentlessly blames you for everything that goes wrong. Or that sets you up for failure, just when it appears that you've turned the corner and all there is now is blue sky. It even talks to you about if people really really knew you - they wouldn't have anything to do with you because you are a failure. Most pretend it's not there or that they can ignore it and it will go away. It truly is one of the best kept secrets in town. And group denial keeps it powerful.
There is also another part of the thought patterns in the mind also. You know it as your fear of failing, losing, not winning, of not being good enough, of not mattering at a core level. Carl Jung called this your Orphan nature, as I do. And it is in an intimate dance with the saboteur hiding in your mind. It is the part of you that has to be in control or feels like a victim, has to be right or feels like you are a loser. The list goes on. From your work on Mindfulness, you will have discovered these aspects of your being. They are simply parts of the committee of the mind, where all other emotional programs are located.
Everybody knows, but nobody talks about them in public - much less acknowledge to yourself. The truth is everybody has an Inner Critic and an Orphan as permanent members of the committee of the mind. How do you learn how to see what you have been blind to? Until that happens, it is impossible to fix. And fix it, you must if you want to build an Empowered Mind.
What Are You Going to Do About It?
Now that you've learned to regulate your emotions and develop mindfulness skills, it's time to examine and master these conflicting voices in your head that have been holding you back. Until they are mastered (which this Course and others teach), you are not going to be able to truly create an Empowered Self, because the self-limiting nature of the Inner Critic and the sabotaging emotional patterns of the Orphan will continue to hijack you just when you think victory is at hand.
So learning how to master these elements of your mind are essential as you strive toward being fully human. This course is eye opening.

Your internal dialogue isn't random—it's driven by two powerful emotional programs called the "Dark Side": the Adapted Voice (self-doubt, self-sabotage, negative self-talk, and over confidence) and the Inner Critic (the criticism, the blamer, self-judgment, and the arrogance ). These thought patterns run automatically in your mind, and when you identify with them as "your thoughts," they consume your awareness and limit your potential.
